Hi, my name is Alys Jackson and I'm an author and poet

based in Adelaide, South Australia.

My work has been published in books, magazines,

anthologies and online.

My New School

My New School

William T Wimple has an odd purple pimple,

Felicity Totty is sniffly and snotty,

Melanie Gough has a troublesome cough,

Felix and Nashy are a quite a bit rashy,

While Cedric DeLister complains of a blister.

Jeromy Riley is frighteningly smiley,

Bradley B. Big has a nose like a pig,

Benjamin Lee has a scab on one knee,

and poor Mrs Duffy is sometimes quite puffyโ€ฆ

But the rest of the teachers are fine.

  1. Dear Alys,

I liked how you named the people in the new school and how you described them Really well.

    • Yes, Vinuk, all of them have something wrong. I’m glad I didn’t go to THAT school. Alys ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿซ

  2. Dear Alys,
I loved this poem. I found it really funny how you always rhymed the last name with the sickness. This has to be one of my favourite poems. I would rate you an A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ because of the extra detail you put in. E.g Melanie Gough has a troublesome cough.
Where did you get the ideas for the names?
    Kind regards Yenuli

    • Wow! Thanks Yenuli. I love all the A++++++++++ and thumbs ups. It was sooo much fun writing this poem. Very silly, I know. It took me ages to work out the names because they had to rhyme. I think this poem took almost a year to finish. I completely gave up twice. Which is why it was so satisfying to finish it!! Alys

  3. Dear Alys ,
That was so funny and creative. How did you think of a topic like this for a poem?
I like how you included rhyming in. How long did it take you to write this poem?
    good job

    • Hi Thinara. I can’t believe this reply is so late! I thought up the topic after reading a book about a strange and crazy school where the teachers were just as silly as some of the children. It took me a couple of weeks to write because I kept changing the teachers and the rhymes. Writing rhyming poetry can be tricky but it’s so satisfying when it finally works. Alys ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    • Thank you, Quinten!! I’m very happy to say that they were NOT teachers at my school. Alys ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜œ

    • Hi Sevasti. Sometimes, it takes a very long time – maybe months, even years. But this one only took a week to write. I’m glad you thought it was funny. Alys
